The Calgary Flames will be hosting various events and community appearances this week, beginning on Monday when they host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer game at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Hockey Fights Cancer

Youth from the Kids Cancer Care PEER Program, supported by the Calgary Flames Foundation, will be in attendance in Huby’s Hangout and will also participate in the starting line-up, while a child from the Alberta Children’s Hospital oncology unit will represent as the TELUS Skater. There will also be an in-game moment in the bowl where fans will be asked to stand and show who they fight for with their own “I Fight For” seat card.

Uncorked for ALS…presented by Scotiabank

Uncorked for ALS presented by Scotiabank is back for the second time, chaired by Frida and Mikael Backlund to raise funds for the ALS Society of Alberta and the Calgary Flames Foundation. In 2012, Frida lost her mom to ALS and since then, both Frida and Mikael have been incredible ambassadors for the cause, raising money and awareness for the devastating illness. The event will see the return of the Flames Better Halves “A Few of our Favourite Things” baskets, which will be part of the silent auction.

Mange’s Breadsticks

Andrew Mangiapane and his fiancé Claudia will visit the kids at the Youth Centres of Calgary in Ogden as part of the Mange’s Breadsticks program for the second time this season. Andrew will spend the afternoon with the group helping the kids advance their hockey skills. Andrew and Claudia launched the program earlier this year as a way to help underprivileged kids receive the opportunity to learn to play hockey. Youth Centres of Calgary (YCC) is a registered non-profit organization that operates a “home away from home” after school and during the summer months for at-risk kids in an underserved and low-income community in SE Calgary.

PREP’s Let’s Talk Hockey

PREP’s Let’s Talk Hockey is back from another year at the Scotiabank Saddledome and will feature special guests including Flames General Manager Craig Conroy, in a fun and relaxed environment. The event will raise funds for The PREP Society which provides therapeutic and educational support to children with Down syndrome so they can live active and included lives in their communities.

The Calgary Flames Foundation strives to improve the lives of southern Albertans through support of health and wellness, education, and grassroots sports. Since inception the Calgary Flames Foundation has been working to help kids play and prosper and has donated over $60 million to southern Alberta charities.
