ARE WE making an impact?

IS THIS what having a professional sports team means to the community?

ARE WE creating change?

On behalf of the board of directors of the Calgary Flames Foundation, I am proud to share the 2018- 19 edition of our Annual Report. This publication showcases the various outreach activities that the Calgary Flames and its charitable arm, the Calgary Flames Foundation, collectively have engaged in during the past year. When the ownership group brought the Flames to Calgary in 1980 they believed that we could have a positive impact on the quality of life of southern Albertans by supporting education, health, wellness and community based sports programs. This became the mandate of the Foundation when it was created in 1983. Since its inception the Calgary Flames Foundation has distributed over $36 million to projects and programs administered by charities and community groups in these key areas.

We encourage you to venture through the pages of this report which highlights last season’s contributions including a renewed commitment
of $1 million dollars to the Rotary Flames House initiatives and at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the ongoing support of the health of our youth with a $750,000 gift to the grade 6 Flames YMCA program which provides every grade six student in the City of Calgary with a free YMCA membership. These initiatives plus the continued gift of outdoor ice and hockey programming are included in this year’s distribution of over $3 million to charities and community groups in southern Alberta. We are humbled by the support and enthusiasm from Flames fans and community benefactors in all areas of our business, particularly our charitable arm. We want to acknowledge this generosity by continuing to invest in the community that has embraced our team as family in this great city. We hope that you will as well.

We as a professional sports organization and community based charity want to take this opportunity to thank our stakeholders, donors, sponsors, volunteers and season ticket holders for their support. We encourage you to take the time to review our financial report from the 2018-19 hockey season. If you have any feedback please email us at

We hope you enjoy reading about our community initiatives as much as the Calgary Flames Foundation team has creating them – it only happens thanks to your support and belief that together we can make a difference.

Yours in sports, health & wellness,
