The Calgary Flames Foundation is excited to team up with The Canadian Tire First Shift program for 2018/19. The Flames will support programs in Calgary (sold out for the 2018/19 season), Red Deer, Lethbridge and Airdrie. If you have a child between the ages of 6-10 who has never played hockey, or know a family who may be interested, please visit www.firstshift.ca to register now.

The Canadian Tire First Shift, in partnership with Bauer Hockey, Hockey Canada and the Calgary Flames, is designed to ensure a positive experience for new-to-hockey families by offering a program that is accessible, affordable, safe and most importantly, fun! For only $199, players will receive head to toe Bauer equipment, a personalized fitting event, and six on-ice sessions with your local Minor Hockey Association. In addition, participants will have exclusive access to the Calgary Flames such as exclusive experiences, promotional offers and engagement with Flames Alumni!

“The Calgary Flames and Calgary Flames Foundation are proud to partner with Canadian Tire, Bauer Hockey and Hockey Canada to support The Canadian Tire First Shift program,” said Kathryn Truscott, Executive Director, Calgary Flames Foundation. “Amateur and grassroots sports are a key part of what we support as the charitable arm of the Calgary Flames. It is one of the major pillars of our mandate and we are happy to be a part of what this program provides to communities in Calgary and Southern Alberta.”

“The Canadian Tire First Shift is all about giving every Canadian the chance to play Canada’s game,” said Tom Renney, CEO of Hockey Canada. “We’ve seen through record attendance and increased growth each year that this program is giving kids the chance to strap on a pair of skates for the first time, and feel like they’re a part of the hockey community and identify as Canadian citizens in a way they maybe haven’t before.”

“The First Shift has gained more and more momentum every season, helping to welcome thousands of new families to our game since 2013. The Calgary Flames’ commitment will add tremendous value, significantly expanding our reach into new regions and creating a powerful connection in our local communities,” said Mary-Kay Messier, Vice President of Marketing for Bauer Hockey. “Along with our founding partner Hockey Canada, and our title sponsor Canadian Tire, we are excited to work with the Calgary Flames to help introduce even more kids to our game in a fun, convenient and affordable way, and ultimately make a difference for our game together.”

The Calgary Flames, alongside Canadian Tire, Bauer Hockey and Hockey Canada will be hosting a Welcome event for The Canadian Tire First Shift Program Calgary camp participants at the Scotiabank Saddledome this Sunday, October 28th. The Calgary camp participants will receive a welcome address from Canadian Tire, Bauer Hockey, Hockey Calgary and the Calgary Flames, receive head to toe equipment fitted by Bauer Hockey and interact with Calgary Flames Alumni, Jamie Macoun, Rhett Warrener and Curtis Glencross.
