The Calgary Flames are proud to host the Crowchild Classic at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. The on-ice contests will feature the men’s and women’s hockey teams from the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University in back-to-back action. This double header is a part of the Crowchild Classic series, an ongoing contest between the two universities.

A ceremonial puck drop will take place at 7:30 p.m. before the Women’s game. Participating in the puck drop will be Calgary’s Mayor, Jyoti Gondek, University of Calgary President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ed McCauley, Mount Royal University President, Dr. Timothy Rahilly and Executive Director Calgary Flames Foundation/Community Investment Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, Candice Goudie.

In previous years, the Crowchild Classic has set a U SPORTS men’s hockey attendance record with a total of 12,859 fans in attendance in 2016. In the first installment of the rivalry game in 2012, the Crowchild Classic broke a 42-year-old Canada West record. In it’s eight installment the game has become a fixture on the Calgary sports scene and one of the marquee university sport events in Canada each year.

Tickets for the game are available through www.godinos.com/cc or www.mru.ca/crowchildclassic  Tickets cost $5 with proceeds going towards student health and wellness initiatives. The Crowchild Classic was initiated in 2012 to mark the first year of U SPORTS competition between Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary. The annual competition pits the two schools together in regular season games in basketball, hockey, soccer and volleyball with the winner receiving the coveted ‘medal’, a 68-kg cast-iron City of Calgary manhole cover.

 This year the Calgary Flames Foundation will donate 100% of the proceeds from the 50/50 draw on Thursday, January 25th to the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University Athletics Programs. This 50/50 is open January 24th for the Crowchild Classic and will remain open through the end of the Calgary Flames game on January 25th until 11:00PM MT. The Calgary Flames are proud supporters of post-secondary institutions in southern Alberta through the Calgary Flames Foundation. Each institute’s men’s and women’s hockey teams receive annual funding and scholarship opportunities.
