The Calgary Flames Foundation is proud to partner with Parks Foundation Calgary and the community of Strathcona, to help replace an outdated playground with a high-quality inclusive playground, accessible to all children of varying abilities.

The current playground is 24 years old and will be replaced this summer. The playground is located at John Costello Catholic School, a school with many students with diverse learning needs.

“The new playground at John Costello Catholic School will help to keep 300 students active daily, as well as 1,500 kids within the SW community and surrounding area. This playground will be able to be accessed by all community members and by neighbouring communities. Given the playground is beside soccer and baseball fields, we anticipate high usage,” says the John Costello Education Society playground team. “Having a quality playground also supports small businesses such as before and after school programs, day cares and day camps by offering safe, healthy recreational spaces for children to play, while encouraging physical activity and social interaction for children of all ages and abilities. We are so grateful for the support from the Calgary Flames Foundation.”

The Calgary Flames Foundation initiated a program partnership with Parks Foundation Calgary this year in which $30,000 each year is directed to help build or refurbish playgrounds in Calgary, in an effort to provide safe and inclusive play spaces for youth and families.
