MARK AND LAUREN GIORDANO TO VISIT THREE SCHOOLS

Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano and his wife Lauren will visit three schools next week as part of their Team Giordano program. In partnership with the Calgary Board of Education and Pizza 73, the Team Giordano initiative provides resources to four Calgary schools to assist in meeting student needs and support personal student development.

Funded by the Calgary Italian Open with Mark Giordano, the Giordanos and the Calgary Flames Foundation, the program has donated $300,000 to the four schools. The funding supports the purchase of new computers, floor hockey equipment and school supplies that provides students mentorship opportunities developed and supported by Mark and Lauren. This past November, over 1,400 students from the four schools were invited by the Giordanos to take in a Flames practice and meet Mark for a question and answer session.

The Team Giordano program aims to encourage and promote improved physical fitness and academics, healthy lifestyles, leadership development, community involvement and the positive behaviour that leads to academic achievement and success in life.

The award recognizes those whose continuous, demonstrated leadership has created a positive impact on their community through sports. Through this, the Giordanos were presented with a $100,000 (USD) grant from ESPN to support their Team Giordano program, which has impacted the lives of 1,900 high-needs Calgary students since being established in 2014.
The Calgary Flames Foundation matches each player’s donations up to $25,000. Through various initiatives, the Calgary Flames Hockey Club and its charitable arm, the Calgary Flames Foundation, continue to touch the lives of thousands of people through its commitment to education, health and wellness, and amateur and grassroots sports.
