A LONG-STANDING PARTNERSHIP BENEFITING THOSE MOST PRECIOUS

For more than 30 years, the Calgary Flames and Flames Foundation have embraced the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the children and families who rely on its care. Special events include the annual Townsend Tigers hockey game and personal patient visits by Calgary Flames players, as well as donations and volunteer support.

In addition to walking alongside families in the final days of an end-of-life journey, Rotary/Flames House provides much needed respite care. This temporary round the clock care of children gives families the rest and renewal they need. Last year, 1,568 nights of care were given at the Rotary Flames House. Day programming includes activities like music therapy, pet therapy, school programs, and day trips. Programming also includes support for the parents and siblings of patients.

“When Patrick and I found ourselves sitting with the Palliative Care Team at Rotary/Flames House all I really remember is being so angry as I looked at the people who were going to help as our child passed away. What we quickly learned in the days and weeks that followed was that those were the people who were going to help Thea live. To live as fully and richly and beautifully as she could — for as long as she could. And she did.“ -PARENT

“Carmen and I have enjoyed many nights at Rotary/Flames House together where she can participate in the programs and meet other kids…and I can lean on the experts there to take care of some of her medical procedures and meds. Many of the families we have met at the House tell us that these stays mean so much to them. It gives them a chance to rest and get recharged. The gifts of respite — however long or short — helps parents stay strong…it gives them energy…and it lets them know there are people to support them. Your gift lets us know we’re not alone.“ -PARENT

“We truly understand that Thea could not have held on and lived so fully and so joyfully without the remarkable care she received from the team at the Rotary Flames House. Somehow they made the unimaginable beautiful.” -LESLEY ROELOFSEN, THEA’S MOM
