Calgary, AB – The 36th annual Calgary Flames Celebrity Charity Golf Classic presented by Scotiabank was held on Tuesday, September 20th at both the Hamptons Golf Club and Country Hills Golf Club. The tournament raised over $400,000 for the Calgary Flames Foundation.
Nearly 400 golfers participated on 54 holes including representatives from the Flames, Roughnecks, Hitmen and Stampeders along with management, alumni and local celebrities in the season launching event. Following the day of golf, all participants met at the Scotiabank Saddledome for the dinner reception. Lance Bouma and Derek Wills led their teams to first place in low gross and low net scores.
Winners are awarded championship rings custom designed by Maxime’s. Other highlights included Marc Leost’s hole in one at the Maxime’s hole at Country Hills. Flames forward Troy Brouwer and defenceman Dennis Wideman were awarded longest drive at each course on Country Hills, Tyler Wotherspoon and Olympic gold medalist Erica Wiebe claimed closest to the pin at the two Country Hills courses.
When the ownership group brought the Flames to Calgary in 1980 their mandate, which is still prominent today, was to ensure that the Calgary Flames have a positive impact on the quality of life in southern Alberta. Since its inception the Foundation, with the support of partners and donors, has raised millions for education, health and wellness, and amateur and grassroots sports. Every season, the Calgary Flames Foundation raises over $4 million in support of these three key areas.Watch Video
